Just started messing around with a very basic recording setup but I'm having lag problems with my MIDI.

I'm curently using:

- Acer Laptop (4gb RAM, 2.1GHz CPU)
- Windows Vista 32
- Adobe Audition 3
- Edirol UA 25 USB controller
- Yamaha Keyboard / MIDI controller

The lag appears if I'm connecting the keyboard through the Edirol USB Controller or seperate MIDI to USB controller. Also occurs in any MIDI program such as Audition on external VST program.

No problems recording other instruments, just MIDI

Any ideas? It's killing me!

I have found this also. I think it is very difficult to get no lag when using midi with recorded audio. First are you using ASIO drivers for your sound card?

I do and still get a little lag. What I do to get round it is try to record all my midi first then bounce the midi track into an audio track when you play that back you can record/mix into and shouldn't notice any lag.

Hope this helps.

I've given up on usb devices for midi input, no matter what I do I seem to always end up with a noticable lag, and although you can quantize to correct the lag in the sequencer, it is just very annoying to me while I am actually playing.

Just noticed you are on a laptop so usb is probably your only option, The only thing I can offer is to live with it while recording and then quantize so playback will be in the correct time.... I also seem to remember that the ASIO drivers may have made an improvement for me in the past.
