Ok what exactly does MIDI stand for? I know its used for recording with your computer and stuff.

I have a digitech pedal and a Zoom 1044 and they both have MIDI outs and in's. So does that mean i hook them up together?

MIDI is an acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. It's used for recording and playing back performance-related data (such as what notes are played and when) with MIDI-compatible instruments, and for sending control messages to MIDI-compatible effects devices, or even things like controlling lighting...

In your example, you could send MIDI messages to control the Digitech pedal -- switch programs or parameter settings. The Zoom looks like it doubles as a drum machine/sequencer so you could probably use that to send appropriate MIDI messages to the Digitech at the appropriate moments.
