Bring Back Transfat!
I just got this darla24 up and running (only soundcard on computer). Loaded PowerTracks Pro Audio 6 only to be told that there were "no midi drivers in windows". I had also loaded Coll edit pro that came with darla and was able to record and playback without a hitch. I'm familiar with pprwertacks and would rather use that if able. Any suggestions?

I believe Darla is a digital audio card only, like many other semi-pro cards (my Dman 2044 e.g.). In other words, it doesn't have a MIDI synth on board and therefore cannot play MIDI files. I use a Sound Blaster Live! Value for MIDI. You can pick one up for around $50, and it should run alongside your Darla without any resource conflict problems.

I've got a blaster Live in another computer. But if I put it in this music machine to use with Powertracks, does that mean the Live will be responsible for recording, or will it just be a source for midi support? I've used the Live before I got the Darla...it clipped like crazy and wasn't very efficient. I don't know if I even need midi. My thing is that the Cool Edit is more complicated than my needs and I don't want to have to learn a new program. I mic my guitars at the amp, my drums are mic'ed into my mixer, and my keyboard goes thru an amp as well. All my tracks are done one at a time. Is there a need for midi except to be able to use Powertacks? If all I need is a digital only software, is there anything similar to Powertracks, i.e. easy to use multitrack with maybe a few effects?

Just replied and it all got lost, so ill try and remember what i said....Of course you can use Powertracks without Midi, just remember to select the drivers for Darla under audio settings....if a box pops up telling you no midi drivers selected, just click to continue or whatever option it gives....You may want to give N-track a try...its more suited to digital audio than Powertracks(which is more known as a sequencer for Midi)....also Powertracks wont let you take advantage of Darlas 24 bit capabilities....youll also need PT 7.0 if you want DirectX plugins....N-Track just kicks Powertracks ass all over in digital audio....Download it at http://fasoft.com/
