I read on the site that to record my vs 880 to my computer sound card that I would need the cable that connects the midi on my Roland to the joystick input on my sound card. So heres where Im stuck- How do I change the settings on my software to record from the joystick/midi port? Heres my specs; Ive got a cheapo sound blaster 16 pci that came with the computer. There is no creative software in my program files so Im using music match jukebox to record but I cant record anything on sound recorder either. Ive selected line in and mic and neither work. Please help me before I yank my hair out! Thanks in advance.

PS I would appreciate any suggestions on some basic user friendly software that would allow me to burn my music that is better than music match jukebox

I hope you didn't hear that from somebody here. The midi cable is for sync and control but it doesn't transmit audio signals. You need to go from the main outs on your VS to the LINE IN on your soundcard.

Ntracks and CoolEditPro are 2 of the best cheap software packages.

Ive tried using a standard guitar cord with and adapter to fit the sound cards line in but the recording is weak and distorted. How can this be?

Don't use guitar cables for one. Use patch cables because they have different impedances. You will probably need 2 1/4" or RCA cables and get a stereo mini plug adapter for the computer end.

Make sure you are using the line in and not the mic in.
