MIDI Drum track - dynamic issue - Velocity or comp?

Hi guys,

If you have a drum track that is MIDI, how would you fix the dynamic issue? velocity change on MIDI track or use a compressor on Audio track?
 
I haven't worked with MIDI in years, but at the time I did, I always used velocity to make the drums as realistic as possible.
