Im now getting into doing all my music on my PC. Im building a PC specificaly for music and art.

I now have programs such as:
East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Gold (working on Platinum ed)
East West Quantum Leap Voices of the Apocolypse (womens choir, mens choir, angels choir, demons choir)
East West Quantum Leap Stormdrum
East West ZeroG Altered States
East West Drum Kit from Hell 2
Image Line Fruity Loops Studio Producer
Cakewalk Sonar 5 Producer Edition
Korg Legacy Edition library (digital)
Miroslav Philharmonic Orchestra and Workstation
and anything else I come accross I may want

Most of these programs will need a Keyboard for me to play on etc. So, I would like to know what one of the better ($400 range) midi controller keyboards is so I get something good and not crap since I will obviously be using it alot. Id like at least 61 key or 71. Slight weighted to full weighted.

I will be doing everything from Symphonic, to Black Metal. Gothic, to death metal. Ambient, to Industrial. Whatever I'm in the mood for since I write alot of music styles.

I also want info on a good soundcard that will perform well with low latency because of the midi keyboard interface and high quality sound etc. I was looking into the The Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro, but any suggestions are welcome. Ill also be playing PC games on the soundcard. Any other suggestions for this new PC and doing my music on it are welcome.

Thanx

Woh, that list must've cost you a lot of money! You've spent some serious money for someone who's 'just getting into doing music on a PC'!

I remember when I was starting out all I had was a sound card, a MIDI controller keyboard and a PC...simpler times...

As for your question, look around for the CME range of MIDI keyboards. I'm buying the UF-7 soon, which has 76 keys, but they also do 61 key and also 88 key versions, and a 5 octave too. They had them at a recent music show in London, and they are very solidly built. I gave it a good bash and a test, and nothing seemed cheap about it. They have a metal chassis, which I think is unique for a controller keyboard. Nice semi-weighted action, and the UF-8 has piano-weighted keys, if you like that sort of thing.

Avoid Sound Blaster cards as they are cheap consumer ones, and not up to doing audio work. I'd look at brands like M-audio, Terratec, E-mu, even Edirol do some breakout boxes.

Come on, you don't honestly believe he bought those programs do you. I mean why would someone spend well over $3000 dollars on Software when they don't even have a PC or a Controller to run it. I'm with fraserhutch on this one. Another pirate. And to darthvengeant, you probably won't last long here basically announcing that you're pirating. Good luck.

I'm taking the piss mate. It's called irony.

Arrrr Matey,

go ahead and get the crappy soundblaster to go with your 10,000 dollars worth of pirated software.

whats with all the harsh comments toward me? I wasn't announcing anything other than giving specifics on programs I will be using to give an idea of what I will need. thats all, plain and simple.

if you'd like to know how I got the programs, ask, don't assume and pretty much bash me. frankly, thats just flat out rude. if I was pirating, how would that be your business? its not relevant to the question. but ill tell you. my brother who is in the navy knows people in the technology industry and thats how I got most of it, and some of it was copies of what other people I know have. the rest I bought. its a tool for making music. what is a person with talent to do? not use it? just half a** it? I either do it right, or not at all. your only as good as the tools you have before you. think of how much more Einstein would be able to do today with our modern technology and computers?

I'm a musician who is FINALLY able to bring this dream Ive had inside of me since I was a child to light and a reality. Ive been recording my music on a d**m 4 track for years and a flipin stereo before that. now I'm financially able to get it done right and get it out there. music is my passion, and the reason I went to college to get a job to fund it. so next time, try being a little more human rather hollier than thou.

if anyone else has common decency and would like to give further suggestions please do.

thanx

You are new, so I will explain this to you:

A. Some of the people on this board MAKE THE SOFTWARE. Seriously. You are stealing from people on this forum

B. See the red dots ( where most have green) you have? Those are votes of disapproval so that people wont help you.

C. I am very talented at quite a few things, pinball for example. I didnt steal a pinball machine.

D. There are 40,000 talented people here. Some of us make CDs that you probably own.

E. It IS our business if YOU steal, we end up paying more for YOUR theft.

F. After being around here for years, we develop an instinct, we KNEW right off you had pirated software. Only a pirate would be stupid enough to announce he has 10 grand in software and is looking at a SOUNDBLASTER  Thats like having a Ferrari and putting a Yugo engine in it.

The bottom line:

Start small. I would start be finding a new screen name, seriously. Come on and dont mention your software or your badass " I am talented so its cool to steal" attitude. People will be glad to help you, As you see, pirating is not cool here.

but, a soundblaster....man, that's cool. It's kind like having a "Vote Perot" button :)

and I'm supposed to know that sound blasters are bad somehow? they are certianly sold well...thats why I ASKED!

THANX for all the NOT help folks...I appreciate all harassment and general bad attitudes, your a real credit to all musicians. no wonder I stray from being social when you have to deal with BS like this for no reason.

and a responce to this:

"Start small. I would start be finding a new screen name, seriously. Come on and dont mention your software or your badass " I am talented so its cool to steal" attitude. People will be glad to help you, As you see, pirating is not cool here"

Im not a pirate. I shelled out alot of money for the stuff I did buy. And to my brother, Im supposed to say "no...I cant take this free software (yes, actual product, no copied) that will make my dreams come true, so ill just give up that dream because im not supposed to take this". And, btw, if people were SO against pirating, then they wouldn't have made cassette tape recorders, VHS recorders, and DVD recorders and burners.

I NEVER said I was cool as steal or was bragging and the way your making it sound. Yes, I do have talent, I get told so all the time and people are always suprised why my music isnt out and signed...thats part of why I do music, because its something im good at. is that a crime to be good at something? no, I shouldnt mention that should I? forgive me. me saying that was not meant to be conceited, it was simply said in context to the fact that I need the tools for thats talent to be realized, plain and simple. Your twisting my words and being RUDE.

And, hey, if some of you DO make this software...try a price drop, because most of it is flat out ridiculously insainly over the top priced...thats not what most musicians can afford. drop the price, you'll sell more. drop the price, more people will be able to make the music they want and we'll have more quality music out there. this isnt an elitist party, its an art form.

Im out of here, ill go someplace where people are about music and helping, not being rude, elitist, and bashing.

Maybe you could get some pirated software that corrects your grammar?

See what I mean? Rude, for no reason. No reason other than the obvious immaturity.

Hey, it was just a joke, don't take it personally!

I'm the board's grammar fascist...

"if you'd like to know how I got the programs, ask, don't assume and pretty much bash me..... some of it was COPIES of what other people I know have."

"Im not a pirate. I shelled out alot of money for the stuff I did buy. And to my brother, Im supposed to say "no...I cant take this free software (yes, actual product, NO COPIED)"

nice save

what a joke this guy is... funny reading though.

I can't believe he listed all that software - unless you had a lottery win or a stupid rich daddy you ain't gonna be buying all that without having a midi keyboard and a soundcard mate...

No, you don't understand - his 'brother' who works in the navy (?!) gave it to him because he knows people in the technology industry. :D

But it's ok though, because he gets told he's talented 'all the time and people are always suprised why [his] music isnt out and signed'

So I guess it's his right to use pirated software, what with him being so talented and all...

Thats some pretty fucked up logic.

Most musicians cant afford it, yet YOU can by stealing it THEN you have the nerve to tell people to lower the price on something you have stolen.

Amigo: One time here, a guy made an outstanding recording on TOYS. Seriously, toys he had around his house. It will be lightyears above anything you can do, and he did it with 10 bucks worth of toys.

You are somehow confusing creativity with money: if you got the talent, you can use el cheapo stuff.

and I'm supposed to know that sound blasters are bad somehow?

YES. YOU STOLE 10,000 bucks of software. Steal a frikkin good soundcard to go with it  Obviously its why we ALL knew you were a fraud and a pirate: only a thief would steal that stuff then ask about a soundblaster.

One mo' lil thang:

ISP numbers are supposedly tracked here and software companies watch sites like this. You just admitted you stole software and left your address. Umm, good luck with all of that. :)

here's a list of stuff you'll need to steal in the future:

1) a keyboard - like roland, yamaha, korg, kawai
2) cables - grab a lot of them, all kinds
3) monitors - good ones take up space, you'll need a wheelbarrow
4) cd-roms - watch out for those sensors at the door
5) guitars - hit a bar, watch the act take a break
6) drums - wait til the gigs over, take their van
7) groupies - take the bus after the first break
8) arena - this is the tough one but im sure youre creative enough
9) lawyer - even harder to steal but maybe you can sign over your royalties

good luck, have fun

the rest of us will "give up that dream because im not supposed to take this"
or get a job, earn bread, and pay for what we need.
