picked up an m-audio Oxygen25 midi controller as a tip from a customer ( I run a moving company and bought it with the tip I was given, so it was pretty much free). Id like to actually use the controller to control EZDrummer in FL Studio so I can make some loops in real-time. I write a lot of heavy metal, so using the piano roll and step sequencer, it doesnt always come out very humanized. im having a hard time finding the information that I need, so I came to trusty ole HR.com...the controller actually came with the drivers too,. which is rare. Now, I have an M-Audio usb MobilePre interface. I only have one USB cable at the moment, so Id have to unplug my inrterface to use the controller, but when I use the controller, if I dont have the interface hooked up, Im going to have some latency, arent I? I havent even tried to set up the midi controller yet, but I just remember the last time i attempted to enter the realm of Midi Controllers, i didnt have an interface, and I did have latency. I got rid of the controller because I didnt have an interface yet so it was useless.

But my main reason for this post... are there any good sites that will help me to learn how to map the controller to run my Kits in EZDrummer, working within FL Studio? I imagine this to be a lengthy process and cant expect one of you amazing people to actually give me a step by step tutorial.. haha.. itd be nice..Well, I apologize for the newbie question with the lengthy post. recording is my passion and im trying to learn as much as possible. Ive learned quite a bit from HR.com, so i hope im able to get some more help. thank you all for your time!!

if you download "ASIO for all" driver will help with latency when your not using you interface. my drummer picked up a UM1 usb interface for his vdrums and it works great. also if your audio interface has MIDI in and controller has a MIDI out you can get a MIDI cable to connect it.. ( if your at an electronics store like the source or whatever look for a DIN cable i guess it's the same as a midi cable. also you should be able to tell FL to use the controller to trigger your vst's. look in the prefs probly under the midi section. sorry i can't be more help, i use a very basic set up in Sonar x2 with rolland vdrums.

Thanks alot Jay, I really appreciate the time you took to reply.I do have the ASIO driver, it came with FL studio, but I know alittle more about adjusting buffer settings, so I'll give that a try. last year when I attempted to use a controller in FL Studio, I had trouble getting it to map out the way I wanted to. I just want like... the first 2 keys to control kick, the next for my hi hat, the next for snare... and so on. but of course everything is way more complicated than just wanting something to work a certain way. ahhaha. well, thanks again for your response. it means alot and is very appreciated.

I have no clue about FL Studio, but I do know how this can be done in Cubase. Since EZDrummer doesn't come with mapping functionality like Superior, you'll have to set up a custom drum map in FL Studio if it has this function. If you find something like this, it should have a column of input notes and one of outputs that should be editable so that the input key triggers any sample you wish. May be best to search the manual.

I wish you the best of luck with this concept in a metal genre, considering that I had a very hard time keeping a rock beat using a keyboard controller, although it might sound good to your ears in realtime, it will likely be off compared to your grid, and therefore other instruments, due to minor quantization issues coupled with your overall latency. These days I normally quantize my drums to a grid and go back and adjust velocities or quantization later if necessary, with EZDrummer's humanization function heading off any duplicate samples. Best solution is to hire a nearby drummer to trigger the samples with like a v-drums kit, although that may not be possible in all cases.
