hey i've got a laptop on the way that's going to be dedicated to audio work.

i'm looking at various interfaces, the cheaper of which (edirol UA-5) does NOT have MIDI.

however, the laptop itself (it hasn't arrived yet so i can't confirm this) is a Gateway and CLAIMS to have a MIDI port.

i foresee needing midi to connect my keyboard controller to my computer, but will it get all screwy if my audio interface is one thing, and my MIDI controller is going into an existing port on the laptop?

i don't know much about midi, just basically have used this controller with an old FM-Synth and with some composition software.

thanks for any advice!

No, shouldn't be a problem. Just set up audio playback device to your audio card and midi playback to your onboard midi connect.

...What's your keyboard controller ? Some keyboards can be connected to serial port using dedicated cable & driver (eg.korg X5D, N5, etc...)
;)
