Hello everyone, I'm kinda new here.

I have a Yamaha DD-55. What I'm wondering is, do I just buy a "Joystick to MIDI" cable, plug it in, open up a sound program and it should work? Or is there anything else I have to have?

Thanks

You get a Joystick-to-MIDI adapter if your soundcard is a SoundBlaster or SoundBlaster-compatible and has a MIDI interface.

Then you need at least one MIDI cable - two if you want to send the MIDI messages that you record back to the DD5 to trigger its onboard sounds. (If you're going to just use drum sounds on the computer, like via a softsynth like Battery, and the DD5 is merely used as a controller, one MIDI cable will suffice).

Finally, you need recording software that records MIDI messages and not just audio. And you need to understand what MIDI channels are - you need to understand why, if the DD5 is sending MIDI data on MIDI channel 1, your recording software is set to recording from MIDI channel 1, etc.

Oh, I almost forgot -- drumsticks.
