Hi, heres my dilemma.

I have a decent computer. A HP 900mhz, 256Ram, WIn 98. It came with a stock soundcard.

So I wanted to upgrade my soundcard, so I went with a M-Audio Dio 2448. For its digital outputs. It installed great but I lost my midi connection thats kinda apart of the stock soundcard thats permenantly installed in the computer, unless theres a way to totally disconnect it.

So has anyone seen this or have this situation? I contacted both HP and M-Audio and neither will help because they both say contact the other. Vicious circle.

Thanks for any insight.

HI there. In regards to the on-board soundcard, usually there's an option in your BIOS to totally disable it. Usually. And Usually it works ;)

I've heard that you can usually use two soundcards in your machine without a problem. Maybe you could use your new card for whatever you need it for, and then keep the onboard soundcard enabled to provide the MIDI functionality.

Thanks for your suggestions, what are the first steps to go at this point to try that?

I really wouldn't be able to tell you much about it, as I've never tried to use two sound cards at once. Hopefully one of the other members can help you out. I've just been lurking around mostly, and have heard them talk about using two cards without a problem.
