Hi guys, I recently purchased a laptop for recording and I have some questions concerning the "Midi" that my laptop is using. Initially, I encountered some problems with the midi output of the soundcard when running Sonar on WDM drivers. Turns out that Sonar would recognize the midi output (Microsoft SW Wavetable) when I use MME drivers instead (which appears to be a driver that might give higher latency during recordings). My question is, would purchasing the M-audio Firewire 410 give me another type of midi output that can possibly run on WDM drivers in Sonar? Do these audio interfaces normally serve as a sound card? (That is, do I have to disable to onboard sound card to run the Firewire 410 interface?)

Thanks guys!

No professional grade audio interface/soundcard has an onboard synth like Soundblaster's do. If you want to start using MIDI invest in some DXi/VST softsynths or get yourself a hardware synth that connects to your computer via USB or MIDI.
