Have any of you guys done any exercises to build your Middle Voice? If so, how long did it take before you could consistently go through your range without cracking or breaking?

I'm starting to get serious about my voice practice, and I was just curious. I kno some guys deny that the Middle Voice exists, but it makes perfect sense to me that there is a range ( From E above Middle C to B) that is a combination of Chest and Head Voice. Since I began practicing the Middle Voice exercises that my vocal transition has gotten a lot smoother in this range.

Hmmm ... I don't know. I certainly know that's a transition part of my voice, where I either have to sing with a good deal of volume in my chest (maybe from F on up ... A or B require EXTREME volume in chest voice) or use falsetto, but I never thought of it as a third voice.

I have heard that it regards to female voices, but not male. But, I'm not an expert.

What type of exercises are you doing? And what do you mean by cracking when going through your range? At some point, you're going to notice the difference between chest and falsetto right? Or am I misunderstanding something here?

You Sing No, Nay, and Naa (Nah) like a bratty little kid, or like Dudley Do-Right. And sing the scales through that range I mentioned, and you will be able to build a very powerful Middle Voice.

I learned about it 2 years ago, and all of the main Vocal coaches push this, Roger Love, Seth Riggs, Brett Manning. (Actually Brett Manning has a 15-minute video online that you can watch where he teaches this technique.)

I just wondered if anyone else had used these. I can already tell. In just a few months, I'm now down to about a 3 note gap! where my voice gets funky sounding - outside of that, I have a great range. Think Rob Halford, when you think Middle Voice. A lot of his stuff is in Middle...and all those years I smoked, I couldn't understand why I couldn't sing Halford's material very well. I quit smoking cigarettes and within 2 months of singing "Nay" like a bratty little kid, I was able to sing a ton of Judas Priest's material.

i just recently realized what was causing the gap problem. I had been a Soy product, and it turned out I was having an allergic reaction to it. It was causing me to have a raspy area in my middle voice for a while, and it turned out to be caused by eating the soy. I stopped eating the soy (which sucks because I loved the product. :( ) and the range cleared up almost immediately. For months I had been struggling with this, and it was driving me nuts.
I recently learned that you will go through several stages of finding the middle voice, and "losing" it.
