For those of you who are trying to take your little hobby and turn it into a jobby... here is some advice...
I have spent lots of money on cheap mics over time. Some were good... but If I add up all the money I "wasted"
Especially drum mics. i.e - Samson, Nady , CAD. I needed acceptance and that annoying term (industry standard)
But it's about knowing what is socially acceptable as a "good mic".
I am really happy with the Audix Dp-5 kit.
Versatile, acceptable and a fair price. 650 bucks?
You wont need other drum mics in the future.
If you spend a little extra and get the DP-7, then your condensors are covered. I own a D-112, it's on loan. My D-6 is fantastic.
As far as general condensors for guitar/vocals.
The Rode-NT1A has been making me proud when compared to a AudioTechnica 4033 that just entered the studio. For vocals the AT take
the cake, no doubt. NT-1A Brand new $240.00 / AT-4033 $400.00
Between the Audix, Rode and AT ... you have what you need.
I've also been surprised by those dirt ass cheap ass MXL pencil condensors. mxl-991 i think ???
(and thats what i have to say about that)
