Hey wuts up people! I'm looknig for a new mic. My budget is $200. I mostly do hip hop music so i need a mic thats good for vocals (rapping and singing). So far i'm leaning on gettin the Shure Beta 58A. What do you guys think about this mic? Do you guys have any suggestions? Oh and how important are microphone preamps. Will I need one if i get the Beta 58A? I NEED HELP BIG TIME! I'll appreciate it a lot if ya'll give me sum input. Thanks!

I'm not sure which type of mic would be best for rap in that price range but I think it would be a fairly safe bet to go with the 58 for starters. You will need some type of pre-amp to to record the mic into your recording system (PC?). I'm assuming that you have a decent soundcard/PC or stand alone multitrack recorder.
I'm sure there are other folk around who will be able to give you more advice.
Hope this helps.

You need a condenser mic 100-200 bucks... damn...

Your out of money already :P

thx

IGHT THX guyz! Any suggestions on what pre-amp model?

M-Audio DMP-3 is always a good choice for a budget mic preamp. As far as mics go, the Beta 58 is a good mic if you go that route. If you go the condenser route, I have found the Marshall MXL-V67g is a good mic. It is darker than some, but I found that it worked well on rappers. The SP B-1 is also a good choice!

thx fo da tips dawg. o AND what do all ya'll think is better for rappin... condenser, unidirectional, what? Holla at me! THX.

skeem. demo a cad gxl mic into a dmp3 for a budget solution.
i doubt youll be disappointed. the cad is only 50 bucks.
also find one of the old shure 545's that jimi h used to use
or an old ev dynamic. if you know what your doing engineering wise
you can get good vocals for cheep.
just an idea......
also search under my name for lots of tips on recording ive posted in last year.
