I am looking to record drums for some tracks but I'm not sure what to use for the best professional sounding quality. I will be recording in a room with furniture and a rug but hard and mostly bear walls and ceiling.
At the moment I have a pair of Behringer C-2's and I'm looking to get 2 more mics to get a better sound. what 2 mics should I buy? and any tips and advice on where to place the 4 mics would be great :)
my price for the 2 mics is around £150, maybe a bit more.
Thanks :)

For a four mic method i believe the glynn johns method will probably work best although i have to say i'm no expert. Someone else will probably come along shortly and fill you in on the best mics to get. Jump in now Henry.

thomann.de do a great selection of own brand mics based on popular / famous mics, a mate of my mine has had great luck but his boss bought 2 that weren't half as good and cost more.

Anyway, I'd suggest you get a nice mic like an SM57 for snare and any large diaphraghm dynamic you can for the kick, should work a treat for you

Dang a UK question.
Most of the good name brand microphones either aren't offered or you have to pay through the nose to have imported.
The two SDC that you mentioned should be fine for over heads (you'll have to experiment with positioning) unless you really want to upgrade..... so I would next get a snare microphone and one for the kick.

Maybe something from the e family of Sennheiser. An e604 and the e602 respectively.

You know I often wounder about that what happens when you get a gift from the states - do you still have to pay at the board crossing?

yep i believe we do. Send me that new electro voice on over and i'll gladly pay the value added tax.
Purely as an experiment you understand. Just dont send me that massive parlaphone thingy.

Henry's spot on, mics in england are limited and expensive compared to the US.

Serious though have a good look round Ollie maybe in the drum forum and see what everyone else is using within your budget.
You may be wise to consider some room treatment too before getting the mics.
There are some stickys about it too i'm sure.

Check on the UK ebay for your best purchasing power.

Is there a tax there as well?

yes of course lol.
why not checkout some of the drum mic kits on ebay or amazon too. this way you will get a set of mics for a good price and in some cases the leads and mic brackets too.
be sure and check out the reviews on those kits before buying.

These guys have it sussed. 57 on snare and d112 on the kick, or some of their equivalents.
That would be in and around your budget, plus you'd have two great guitar/bass mics if you ever need that.
