In the price range of the C1:
MXL960 (Mr. Gerst claims it's a V69m with a different body). I like mine. Some people report some external/cosmetic issues with their 960 but mine arrived with no apparent flaws.
Apex 460. I wasn't OVERLY impressed with mine right out of the box but it is notoriously and widely modifiable. The mods range from DIY simple to tech esoteric.

If you have a good room (or a favorite room) and good self-esteem, and you want really simple, surprising sweetness, try a Naiant MS-4 (coming from the Rode family, you might have to adjust your gain v. noise v. sound outlook).
Alternate condensers to the C1 for vocals:
CAD M179 or M177, Octava MK319, MXL V67G, GXL 3000, JoeMeek JM47, SP B1.
There's also a load of ribbon mics out there in the price range of the C1, including the now-on-sale phantom-powered Karma K6.
And of course, you could tube-up those Rodes with a preamp . . .
Good luck,
Paj
