Hi

Im new here.
I want to know what mic i need for capturing that nice roar of an WW2 Airplane engine.
Ive recorded a video of an plane, but as you can hear in the video the sound of the planes engine is weak :

Oh can't paste url in here, so if you want to hear and se the video, you have to go on youtube and write : Lancaster At Stadil 5/5-2011

Thx =)

I'd probably go with a (heavily screened) shotgun into a preamp with obscene amounts of headroom to handle the high SPLs -- But you're going to have to be awfully precise aiming the mic at the source.

A pair of spaced (and again, heavily screened, which is definitely going to take a little top end off) omni condensers (probably not too dissimilar from what's in your camera, but something of higher quality) through a decent preamp with properly-set levels and no automatic gain reduction would probably get you pretty close to what you'd hear on the ground...

Uber-cheap and reasonably capable -- A pair of Behringer measurement mics into a M-Audio DMP3 preamp (no real headroom in that preamp, but if the input levels are set carefully so the voltage barely causes the signal to exceed line level, it'll probably work out).
