I was just clearing through my computer and found this short assignment I had to write last year. Nothing close to Harvey Gerst standard and gonna be laughed at any of the regulars with good electrical engineering knowledge, but I had a quick read through through and it seemed like quite a good thing to share on here for anyone new who's interested in just the basics at an accessible level.

Had to cut it down quite a lot to get it within the word limit, so there are quite a few omissions (for the purposes of keeping the word count down, ribbon mics didn't exist) and some things are just briefly mentioned in passing. Also, sorry about the stuff about the live applications and conclusions... I had to jump through hoops, e.g. have an aim to the research and fit all the stuff into context, and I my teacher knew what an SM57 was so that was an easy bet :p

(Also some dodgy sources in there *cough* wikipedia reference *cough* ...meh, I passed, it was only a small assignment)

Good stuff Matt but I noticed that you gave no credit to the HR members. :D
