Microphone Pre Amp Question

This is a basic question, but here goes.

I have a Tascam TMD-1000 digital mixer. This unit has 48v phantom power but when I connect my microphone into the input sound levels is very low and barely audible. I am wondering about the need for a mic preamp. Advise would be mucn appreciated.

If it has phantom power it certainly has mic preamps. What mic are you using? Perhaps it need phantom power and you have not engaged it?
