Just got my Rode NT1a back from Oktava Mod! I really didn't know what to expect. except for what is written on the web site ~The Rode NT1a, MJE-K47 modification ~and I know that Michael is an honest and trustworthy person.
All I can say is WOW what a difference!

Before sending the Rode out we made a bunch of recordings with it - acoustic guitar/ vocals spoken and singing/ keys giggling/ cell phone rings/etc. And the sounds that the rode captured was of great quality.

Upon receiving the new and improved Rode back we noticed the craftsmanship to be of very high quality with the new headbasket. Then came the test ...we set up as close as possible as before with all the same settings etc. and proceeded to record once again.
Just listening to the monitors before A/B ing the tracks one could tell this was magical.

The A/B test proved to be astonishing!
With solid bass response and improved frequency response through out the mid and high range with no sibilance, edgey brightness in the high end.
All the weird anomaly stuck out like a sore thumb in comparison from the pre modification recordings of the Rode and the modified MJE-K47 Rode .....like night and day.
I must say it was worth every penny spent! And I have many other microphone to head Michaels' way!

Can you post some before and after samples? I have an NT-1a that sounds pretty good as is but I am considering the mod as well.

The files might still be saved at the studio, but the A/B scenario can be found at Oktava Mod.com as well as the on line form to have the modification preformed.
Believe me before sending out my Rode I said to myself the same thing that this mic sounds great! what could possible make it sound better?
I'm so glad that we were able to do an A/b test and to hear the difference.

Though we have Mics that cost a lot more than the now modified Rode, it will undoubtedly be the first Microphone grabbed when choosing a microphone on all future recording projects at least on vocals and acoustic guitar and voice overs and well..... we'll see.

Nice. I've pondered getting an NT1/A . hmmm...
mama's outta town, got some cash burnin a hole.....hmmmm...

:D

What are ya into it all said n done, if ya don't mind my asking?

Had the NT1a from a second hand purchase of $120. and the mod is $349. so $469. And the final quality can't be touched - I feel - for any where near that price. Just an unbelievable special microphone now. Just check out the web site DB.

Yup that's it DB.
Oh yeah, which ones do you have?

Just have to post after doing a few vocal tracks with the modified Rode MJE-K49.
WOW such a difference.
I'm absolutely sending Michael some more microphones for modification.

Are vocals the only thing that you have recorded with this mod ?
