Hi everyone. Just bought a tascam dp-008 and I think it's really great.
I am a singer songwriter and will be using it to record acoustic guitar and vocals (along with some harmonica, and hand held percussive instruments). The built in microphones sound really good and provide a nice stereo separation for my guitar. I'm really happy with it. Vocals are o.k., but since the unit has xlr inputs and phantom power, I'm thinking a dedicated microphone for vocals might work even better than the built in microphones. I don't have much money to spend on a microphone ($75-$150), and wonder if anything in that price range would be a substantial improvement for male vox. I've seen the thread regarding great microphones for $100. Does anyone have experience with the dp-004/008 internal microphones and the difference a budget ld condenser like an at2020, mxl v63, or something else might make, or at this price point am I spinning my wheels? Maybe a cheap compressor and dynamic microphone is an option? I don't need the best, just something inexpensive that might be a worthwhile addition to my tascam. Thanks so much!

I have a pair of MXL V63M mics that are used with a Tascam 2488/2 with really good results. Have used them to record several vocalists male and female as well as over heads for drums, ambient mics for live recording and for acoustic guitars. With proper placement and a good mic pre they sound really good.
Vox on "May I Please" and "Live My Life" were done on a V63M
