ok, is there anyway i can make the sound of an "echo/singer in a choral chamber/church choir" without using anything but a microphone, like is there a certain way to set up things to create this sound, i have no money for an effects unit

Absolutely. Record your vocal in a reverberant room like a church or auditorium. The further the vocalist is from the mic, the more room is picked up by the mic. You adjust the amount of "verb" in the sound by regulating how far you are from the mic.

and if you don't have a built-in church in your bedroom,
do it like in the good old days,
make yourself a reverb chamber,

put the singer in your room, record him,
and then when its recorded you put ONE speaker and ONE microphone in your bathroom or shower,
playback the music trough that one speaker,
record trough that mic,
and mess alot with mic positioning

you'll have your free reverb

:D Yo Floz:

If you use the bathroom, don't turn on the water while the speaker is in the tub! :p

Back to more mundane thought: You can rent a simple reverb box for a month--should be really cost effective as there are so many choices. Even the low cost Nano from Alesis would do.

But, if money is really short, all suggestions given sound good to me.

Green Hornet :D

i'm definately gonna record some stuff in the shower,
just NEED to get that sound on tape :D

but yeah, reverb units can be found for Real cheap,
hell,,,,why don't you get some free vst plugins and use cubase or another app for live FX on your voice....

if you can use a pc with a vst compliant sequencer you could use Sir (super impulse reverb-free convolution reverb) with loads of free impulse responses as found on the internet. Also if you got your reverb chamber set up you might wanna capture some impulse responses by firing a starter pistol or a very short spike in the room and recording that as an impulse response.

just imagine, my shower as an impulse for some software....
maybe i'll try to do that this weekend...eventhough i'm not sure how it works to record impulses...... is it enough to record a short and loud sound?
then what...import this wave file into that reverb?
