Microphone Detection

Hello,

I have a Tascam US-100 audio interface and a Shure SM57. The Tascam uses the USB Audio Codec (a universal codec) and it automatically switches to it in the Sound and Audio Devices Properties (from the Control Panel in Windows XP). However, I am getting no sound. When I use FL Studio, the Mic Input box is empty and when I click it, it opens the F1 help window on using external microphones, which I'm assuming means it can't detect it. Audacity can't detect it either.

I can hear the microphone through the headphone port on the audio interface so I know that it's working. It's just not being detected by any software.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are you sure either of these programs will "detect" your interface (that's what needs to be detected, not your microphone) automatically?

Do you not have to go and tell them what device you want to use as input via some form of preference selection?

I'm not familiar with either program, but there's detailed information here about what needs to be done in Audacity...

Well, I figured it out.

For posterity or anyone else with the problem: go to Options>Audio Settings>Input/Output. Set Input/Output as ASIO4ALL (a driver you need to install). Click "Show ASIO Panel." Click the power button for the USB Audio Codec and everything should work.
