Hey guys. New here, didn't know where to go but hopefully you can help. It's kinda urgent.

I've been using my Audio Technica AT2020 Cardioid Condenser mic for about a year without issue. But as I was recording the other day the signal just suddenly plummeted in volume, lost all of it's bottom-end and got drowned out by irritating hiss. This has happened once before a few months back, but then returned back to normal and remained that way up until recently. Sometimes when I plug it in it's normal for a few seconds, then goes strange again.

This is incredibly inconvenient as I'm in the middle of recording an album. I'm aware I may have to get the mic repaired or replaced but I'm hoping that's not the case. Please help me out guys!

Additional info - I have used multiple mic cables and it hasn't made a difference. I've also tested other mics and they work a-ok.

Yes. The interface is a Steinberg C12 if that helps. I've just used the AT2021 on it and it works perfectly.

Then perhaps its the microphone itself. Try getting your AT2020 checked out for any electrical supply faults

AT is great about repairs. Send it back to them in Stow,Ohio. They usually have quick turnaround times and may not even charge you for the repair.

Could be condensation, try putting the mic in a warm pace for a day and try it again. The other cause of this problem is a bad connection to the phantom power, check the pins in the bottom of the mic are clean and making a good contact with the XLR cable.

Cheers

Alan.
