Hi,
Would the microKORG be suitable for industrial tinged rock/metal? I'm thinking something along the lines of NIN/Manson.

Thank you for you time

You might also what to look at the Alesis Ion and Red Sound DarkStar.

If you're basically looking for EBM style synth sounds, pretty much any Analog or VA would do. Combine them with some guitar pedals and you're almost there.

Yeah, thats what I figured too. I plan on running it through my sansamp psa-1, I guess that combo should have some potential.

EBM, Industrial????

If I was u I would get me a korg EM1 or the sampler they have they are about 300.00
Now its a drum machine/synth if u have a midi controller u can create some wild synth leads with step edits and good old bass lines there are 2 synth on this baby you can hold up to 12 song they send them over to PC MAC what ever u use save a midi and u are done erase start all over. Why spend money on a key board with little tinny keys this will get old fast you can get more out of the korg groove boxes
Trust me

I would believe a groovebox would prove a little limiting? Is not the concept of those boxes arranging pre-made loops - more of a DJ toy so to speak?

Uh Decay, sorry to say your a bit off with that statement. :)
The Korgs are fantastic for original creation of musical passages.
Granted it is a loop based type thing but you create the loops and the actual sounds can be created as well.
Basicly its a VA synth tied to a basic sequencer. Personaly I have a EMX with the tube.......... HOLY Sheeeet its sweeeet for making backing tracks and stuff.

But no the em1 is not just a box full of pre-made loops.......
Its a great machine for more than just DJ stuff.

I have actually made a complete E.P. and sold them on virgin boarders and target.com the only limit is your imagination

Okay, cool. Thanks for enlightening me.

But what would be the real advantage of employing the sequencer in EM1 as opposed to, say, Cubase - which I use today? More realtime tweaking of effects culminating in potenitally crazier and more alive sounds?

Make a song songs consist of patterns now u have a song made on the drum machine saved you can record it analog to computer left right audio out to audio in cubase
or u can record the info "MIDI" if this is good for u it might be best to record all separate kick then snare then hh sow on I’m not sure because I don’t use midi recording to much it is better than straight audio but not for me!
If midi is recorded you can add different sounds to what up made and not rely
On the korg sounds
I use pro tools for
if this sounds good u can buy some software synths and the sound will be endless
of coures I love hardware I have an Indigo virus EM1 korg M1 Korg polysix
MS2000 software I have Albino moog moduler and others for live I use an XPS
laptop with acid acid is not the but been to lazy to look into an nother I have ableton live but have not used it
