ok, this discussion has been covered hundreds of times, but i'm trying to get a tailored answer for me. i currently have the older makie 1202 4 channel mixer.

i have my mixer going into my lynxone soundcard. i am using the at4050 condenser mic. i'm doing my tracking and mixing in cubase sx, vegas video 3.0, acid pro 4.0.
i run my vox and my
i read some reviews on the grace 101 that were pretty good, but my question is, what mic pre's are out that will produce better quality signals?

i have read that if you use one channel at a time on the makie mixer that it's quality will be very good. i only use one channel at a time, but can i get better quality with a dedicated one channel mic pre under a $1,000.00.

will the results in this price range be worth the upgrade?

A Grace 101 pre @700 list(less on the street) will sound so much better for your application. And you could keep the mackie for a doorstop. There are other pres available but at this level it would only be a matter of taste as opposed to quality.

cool

thanks cavedog 101. i already have an art tube pre as a door stop, i can probably use this mixer as a bookend, lol. i guess the mixer can be good for playback through my monitors, since it has the headphones slot and other ins and outs to set up different speakers. thanks.

You have great converters in your Lynx card, so getting a good pre is a smart move! I recommend a Great River ME-1NV, it`s $995, but worth every dime...... You can run it both clean and coloured, amazing little pre!

ok

thanks plexi, i'll look into the great river also, if the three hundred dollar difference between it and the grace 101 is worth it, i may lean in that direction. thanks again

Yo JugalO:]

I got a price quote of 545 from Cascade Media out of Seattle for the Grace Design 101 and after reading a ton of stuff about that unit I think I'll buy one. 770 dollars is too high. Check out the specs of a Grace unit by contacting Grace on the net.

Yea, verily brother, you can spend mo money for a mic pre but I kind of lean towards the Grace Design unit.

Almost all reports and evaluations of the Grace unit are positive.

Green Hornet :D :p
