If there are you can bet the BBC's Natural History Unit (which was, and may still be, based in Bristol) either has one or would like to know about them :D

I would suggest the Behringer B1:

How's this for a review, crazydoc. : )

Along with a good number of budget large condensers, we also tried the Behringer B1 on various sources such as vocals, amps, drum OH and acoustic guitar. In almost all cases the five or six engineers present at the sessions made various funny faces denoting non-pleasure with the sonic results of the B1. Some of the descriptions noted by the engineers included "cheap-sounding", "thin", "tinny", "shitty", "really bad" and "sounds like a good mic to record a mosquito".

yah great mic there  dont think thats waht im looking for though.

There are super sensitive mics for this, unfortunately they're really big heavy beasties, so you run a really high risk of squashing the lady bug by dropping it on it.

Mind you, you may get an interesting version of "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" in ladybugese just before impact.

ahhh the mothership!! Crunch! umm yah. Anyways I bet theyre pretty expensive. Know any examples?

I myself just have to say that I am learning the craziest shit from this site. Expands my thinking. I am waiting avidly for more details from the Enlightened.

that's a great idea. i want one, if they exist.

a sound microscope!

When I want to record something small I just stuff a U87 down the front of my pants.

I'm kidding, of course. If I were a preamp, I'd be a Vipre...
