I recently installed an aquarium bass drum head with a hole for a mic. I can't really afford the big shure mic that is made for the bass drum but i was wondering if i could use an sm 48 or put some other mic in their that would make it sound pretty good? Or do i need to shell out 150 + bucks and buy a suitable mic for the bass drum.

the sm48 will do good enought for now....lots of people mic the kick with a sm57 and get decent results, and the 48 isnt far away sonically...of course youll get a better sound from some other mics tailored for kick, but only YOUR ears can tell ya what you NEED....
