Mic Help- Help the new fish out, Man

How many mics do I need to record vocals and acustic guitar and what mics would be best for me to buy? Can I use the same mic for vocals and guitar? I don't want to spend more than 500 dollars. Thanks and have a sweet ass day!

Answer to question 1: Between 1 and 3 mics.
Answer to question 2: Condenser mics are a popular choice.
Answer to question 3: Most people find smaller mics work better for guitar, while larger mics are more flattering for vocals.

One question from me: How much money do you wanna spend?

At under 500.00 the instrument mics can be sm57s(SHS makes an exact copy of this mic for 65.00 ea).

With the rest a good Mic pre and a large diaphram condenser can be had ,rode nt1 and an art tube mp.

I don't know if I would say an SM57 for acoustic guitar, I've never had much luck with that. A large diaphragm condenser and a small diaphragm condenser might be the way to go... I would say the Rode NT1000 is really nice, a little pricey for your range at around 350$... then there's the Marshall V67G that Harvey swears by for around 270$... For a small diaphragm condenser, I don't know, an Oktava MC012, a Rode NT3, or an AKG C3000s.

Very simple.....call Abe's in Miami, order a pair of Marshall 603s small condensors for $65 each, and a Marshall V-67 large condensor for $169. I just ordered those 3 and for a total of $307, which included shipping, you will have two great mics that will allow you to record your acoustic in stereo, and a large condensor for vocals. This is the best deal on the planet. For $307, you will have mics that you can get excellent sound.

(AKG C3000B is a big diaphragm condensor, the AKG C1000 is the small condensor...)

oops, yeah, that's what I meant, AKG C1000. but I also like blinddogblues' suggestion...

By the way, has anyone got an idea where you can find those Marshall mics in Europe? Other brand or whatever? I looked for them on different sites... No luck. I'll ask in the store next time I get there, but I doubt it...

What would be the optimum setup for these mic's on acoustic? Small diaphragm up close, large further out?

Also, would the 603's be effective overheads for drums?

Hey Charger, is that rickety assed wooden roller coaster still standing at the boardwalk? :D

Hey grip, yeah, the Giant Dipper is still standing. It's the oldest standing wooden roller coaster in the states, I believe. You can hear the screams of people riding it all over town, I always wonder if it's finally taken its last plunge...

Ah, the memories! Funny though, the only memories I have of that thing are of it scaring the hell out of me! Used to walk across that tressle on the south side of the boardwalk, too. Can't remember why!
I had a meeting at the Elk's Lodge back in March, but my schedual didn't allow a trip all the way into town....heartbreaking.

Thanks for the "Rickety white wobbly wooden roll my stomach coaster" update! :D :D :D
