Mic troubleshoot

This probably and hopefully have a simple explanation, I am using acid pro 6.0 and a decent microphon. Now everytime I record, even if at high volume, the playback is really low, almost nonexistant, is there a way to fix this problem?

if nothing else, I can try recording it wihtout the dim output option, which gives it an k volume but also static, any tips of gettin grid of that?

It would be helpful if you stated what gear you're using. What is your "decent mic"? What interface? Is there phantom power from your preamp? Is it turned on?
