Roland suggests THEIR DR-20 mic that THEIR "COSM mic modelling" software is designed to go with on the VS-880ex (BIG SURPRISE?), but is it really the way to go to make the most of this modelling software or would I be better to use a better quality all-around mic (within "budgetary constraints") ...maybe an SM57 or 58? Thanks!
Roland design the their mic modeling COSM using the DR-10, DR-20 and Shure SM-57. And I know that the DR series is fairly close to the SM series sonically. So you would get similar results. I think it will be more of a preference call or what else you want to use the mics for that will shape your decisions. I know that the SMs are the workhorse of the stage, so they are very poular. By the way, the SM47 and SM48 are identical to the SM57 and SM58 except for the casings. If you aren't doing live shows every weekend, these are great alternatives for a good chunk less money.
