I own an AT3035 condenser mic. There are two tiny switches labeled 'low cut' and 'pad'. The low cut options are a straight line and a curved line. The pad options are -10dB and 0dB. Can someone explain to me what each setting does? I have a home studio and I use the mic primarily for vocals and acoustic guitar. Thanx.

The low cut will attenuate lower frequencies, decreasing proximity effect and/or freeing up some head room by taking out unecessary frequencies. You don't really need 20 hz on most vocals or flutes, for instance. The straight line means the rolloff is inactive, the curved one will engage it.

The pad is used for louder sound sources to reduce mic clipping.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it, but I think I'm gonna need the same explaination in layman's terms. Thanx again.

The low cut removes lower frequencies(the curved line), the straight line doesn't. As for the pad, select -10db when recording louder sources.
