Well here is what I currently have... ...which is not much...
sm58
sm57
SP B1
What I want to get...
I want to get a smoother thicker warmer vocal sound that is a little less harsh, and not muddy. I just want less harsh smooth and warm =] Will also be useing this mic to record acoustic guitars. I do mostly rock type singer songwriter stuff. And i am recording a CD to support my live shows.
Here are some samples of what I will be doing and what my voice sounds like so you can get an idea.... This is me my guitar and the B1. The first one it sounds good, but the 2nd Im hitting the mic harsh...
Here are the my thoughts, and why I think they may be good for me... Unfortunatly theres nowhere I can readly try these mics within over an hour of driving distance.. Ideally I would like to pick up 2 mics as I plan to record other singer songwriters here..
MXL v77 - Well I hear its a great mic, from what I read pretty much what I'm looking for, unfortunatly its damn hard to find.
MXL 69me - I dunno this could aslo be a good choice, but im afraid of mudded vox...
SP C3 - Maybe its not as warm as im looking for but the patterns could give me a great fullness effect when stereod and phased with a warmer mic on the mono chan??? Maybe this idea is overkill. Would be a great instrument mic too..
MXL 67i - Im really digging the dual diaphram idea, but is it really all its cracked up to be. Im thinkgin it would be good when recording differant people here in my studio, as well as my own vox... is it worth haveing this around?
Nady ribbon or Shiny box - I dunno which one, but would this give me smoothness and warmth I'm looking for?
KEL HM-1 - This mic sounds like it could be good, plus I think it would be handy for onstage recording of the acoustic. Supposed to have a thicker sound.. I guess you cant go wrong for 99 and a great return policy. The problem is I think I would want 2 if I bought 1 =]
Ive got about 500 to spend here... That way I can still pay the rent (maybe) =]
Your suggestions are very welcome!
Thanks in advance,
Josh
