Hey, I am slowly getting my simple home studio set up for recording vocals. I have a mic, cables, and audio interface... now I need a mic stand. Originally, I was looking at this one, since it has great reviews: http://amzn.to/aSATn5. But it says it's only 5'1, and i'm 6'3, hmmmm... don't know if that will work. For the pop filter, I was thinking of getting this one: http://amzn.to/di3izB. Was wondering if the double filter would muffle or take away any vocal quality, but from the reviews I read, it seems that shouldn't be a problem, so maybe not. As far as the shock mount, I was wondering how necessary it will be, because I I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood/house, so I can't think of any vibrations that would really make a difference in recording, unless I'm being a really naive newbie. Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! P.S. I'm on a budget and trying not to spend a whole lot, just f.y.i....

They'll both do....though if this is going to be like "the" mic stand for you for a tie to come...break down and get something better. K&M stands are tops...and there are a few others, like Atlas, Tama, and K&M also makes stand for AKG and a couple of other brands.

Nothing worse than a flimsy, stand that is all loose and slowly falls apart the ore you use it. The On Stage stuff is like that. :(

AFA the pop filter...no problem with the dual screens...I like them. I would only suggest to get an 8" screen...that way the ring is totally out of the line of fire, and you get total coverage of the mic, no matter how big it is.

what kind of mic(s) is going on this stand?

Of my four mic stands, two of them I bought in 1990 and they're still going strong.
The stand you have here will, as Miroslav says, do. Are you only recording vocals ? The stand looked like a straight up one as opposed to one with a boom arm that is more flexible, in my opinion.
The pop shield shouldn't mess with clarity and high end although there are those that feel that it does.

Hi miroslav, thanks for the speedy and helpful reply. The mic is an Audio Technica AT2020 Condenser Mic (not the USB one). It seems like most of the pop filters I've come across are 6", but I will continue to look around for 8" ones, and possibly search for better mic stands within reasonable pricing range. Did you have any suggestions about the shock mount? I'm wondering if I really need one at all, considering I can't think of any vibrations that would upset my recordings. But again, I could just be being naive and trying to cut corners, lol. But really, I'm not sure how important it will be to have one...

Some one will chime in and correct me if I am wrong. But to my knolage and understanding most all mics are internally shock mounted. I do not own any shock mounts and have not (yet) found a reason for myself to buy one. As for your pop filter, I just picked up an 8" at Guitar Center for like $15 in the 'clearence' bin. Not sure if you live close to a GC but it might be worth checking into. And stands....I only own cheap ones, for now, and I am constantly bitching and swearing that I will never buy another one. But everytime one breaks its last min and I'm short on cash and can only afford another $10 stand :/ I would get a good one from the get go if I were in your shoes.
