mic stand from ceiling or wall

my vocal booth isnt really big so i figure i could save some space (and look cool) if i hung the mic stand from the ceiling ar maybee the wall. are there any kits to do this or is this some thing ill have to just bulid on my own. thanx for any help..
 
That's actually a pretty cool idea. You'll have to let us know how this turns out once you get something installed. Pictures would be extra cool.
 
I'd go with a round base straight stand fitted with a mini (half) boom.
I think it'd save more space than the style mount in the above link, cost less and be more versitle.

I've been having this debate with myself too. If you look at my VO booth thread you'll see the tight quarters I'm dealing with. For now, I've got my mic on a round base stand, no boom and it's working okay. I may put the boom on there and play with it though to see what happens. You interested in the findings at all?

Thinking more about it, the problem with the stand in the link I posted is that it needs a pretty wide area to swing in and that takes up a lot of usable space. And if you put it in the corner you really limit where it can go.

Well thank you, but I'm really not smart, just cheap! :D

I have a lamp EXACTALY like that mount and even have the optional C clamp around here somewhere too and it'd work, but I know you could find the same exact thing in a thrift store for 5 bucks - I did. I also have one of the mini booms (Not really a boom since it doesn't have the counter weight end, it screws to a straight stand and just angles about 8 inches.) You could also MAYBE do a desk flange mount to the wall or ceiling and gooseneck off of that, but i'm not sure how well that would work with a shockmount or the weight.

EDIT:

If it's actual floor space you are in need of, you could maybe even do the desk flange mount to the wall with just the mini boom. This would limit you for vertical adjustment, but if only you use the booth it could work.

thanx for the help. whatever i do it needs to be really sturdy. im probably going to be using a reflexion filter with it aswell.
 
Take a mic stand to a plumber, have them cut off the bottom end (big part) and thread it to fit a flange, locate a celing stud/rafter and secure the flange to it, screw in the stand, add a boom and mic. Add a few cup hooks to the celing to keep the cable up out of the way. I did this for overheads for drums and it works great, it should work fine in a vocal booth too. The length of the part you get cut and threaded will depend on your celing hight and the length of the boom arm you plan to use.
