Greetings!

I'm coding and slowly building an AI system for my pad; this has been done before, most decidedly, but what I haven't seen is one that doesn't require you to talk in to your phone, a headset or a standalone mic. My software is running on a nano pc in a closet, which links to several 'modules' placed around my flat. Each module contains an AC converted wireless fm transmitter, speaker and microphone. The modules will be mounted at various intervals on the top of the walls. The only issue is I am completely microphone illiterate and haven't the foggiest about what mic I should get to suit my application. My needs are:

Good range whilst retaining quality and volume levels that will be accepted by speech recognition software (from at least 7-8 metres away, I also guess it will have to be omnidirectional?).

General quality, as to make sure the software recognizes natural speaking voices rather than robotic dictation.

Size, needs to be small enough to fit or be able to be modded to fit in a box about the size of a 500g block of cheddar :P

Connection: needs to be 3.5mm, that's kind of imperative unfortunately :(

Price, I bet this is the groaner :P if it was a one off price wouldn't be much of a concern, but I intend to have 4-6 of these modules so the cost will multiply, I hope to spend less than 30-40 pounds a pop.

Thanks chaps, I hope this isn't too much of a tall order! And sorry in advance if this is the wrong section!

All you need is a small boundary microphone(s). Lots of them available on Amazon for less that $20.
