Hey everyone, I know most people on here spend a fair amount of money on microphones. However, I thought I would offer this up for those of us looking to buy on the cheap end.

I bought a Rode NT1a on ebay a few months ago and it came along with 3 Superlux ECO-88 mics. They looked pretty cheap and crappy to me, but they were free so I just tucked them in my closet in case I ever needed them desperately.

I was getting ready to record a track from the guitar amp when I remembered I had lent my sm-57's to a friend. So I pulled these low-end dynamics out of morbid curiosity and the recording actually turned out great. I was shocked and a bit dismayed at how good it sounded. I hate to admit it but I don't think I've ever gotten so good a sound out of the shures. I'm still working on the track, but I'll be posting it in the mp3 clinic in the next few weeks so you can hear for yourself.

Anyways, these mics are cheap as dirt. Right now on ebay someone is selling a set of 3 with cables for $30. I'm not sure how much they are individually. Anyone new to home recording who is considering what beginner's microphones to buy, I suggest you try these.

i have a superlux sm57 knockoff that i bring to gigs as a backup/vocoder mic.

i have recorded with it, and can attest to the fact that it is a perfectly decent little mic. perhaps not as nice as an sm57, but certainly pretty fucking good for the $19 i payed for it.

i also say superlux makes some good mics for the pitiful price. certainly good enough for live. and they make decent back up mics in the studio as well.
