If your recording bass guitar try running it direct through a DI. If you want to mic your bass amp try an AKG D112 or an ELectro Voice RE20. A sm57 is not ideal for lower frequency instruments. SM57 are great mics to use on guitar cabinets, horns, drums, but for vocals I would recommend a condenser mic.
