im gonna be recording mostly rnb songs. anyone recommend a mic suitable for that task?

Shure SM-7b and EV RE-20 are industry standards, but there are a LOT of variables like you (Michael Jackson had a different voice than Barry White - the range and timbre of your voice is unique to everyone else), equipment and the room you are recording in.
You should try to find a music store that will let you audition mics as no single mic is good for EVERYONE.

shure sm58 is a favourite - I use a samson co1 (like to work on a tight budget)

How much can you afford to spend on the microphone?
