any suggestions on a good, reasonably priced (i.e. $250-$350) mic preamp w/phantom power...thanks

Yea, the ART pro MPA is a fairly descent pre-amp to use in that price range. It has +48 v that you are looking for and its also a tube pre-amp which gives a really warm sound especially with vocals. It has two analog meters whick makes its very easy to view from a distance and the best thing is that it has a 20 db gain button so you can use just about any mike on it. I was really suprised in the performance of this piece for the money.Sometimes we use it over the Drawmer 1960 depending on the application. Hope this helps.

LMSTUDIO made a good suggestion, but unless he has a great contact somewhere to get a Pro MPA for the 250-350 price range, you will need to shoot a bit lower. (hey bill, let me know where i can get one for that cheap! :) ) Check out the regular old ART MP or Dual MP. While admittedly, it is just slightly less extended on the top end response, I am sure that most people will have a very hard time telling the difference between the sound of these two units, since they both use the same technology of hybrid tube design. The single unil goes for about $130 and the dual unit can be had for around $270 or so. The Pro MP starts around $450. I use the Dual MP's in my studio (www.echostarstudio.com) and use it over just about everything else that is available to me, which is quite extensive. Good luck.

Hey people,
Maybe I was a bit misleading. I did get a very good deal on the MPA.It was from a dealer we use frequently.its still worth buying though. I like it.
