I record on a Boss br-8 and am upgrading from a dynamic mic to a condensor (looking at MXL V67M and Rode NT1 & NT2). Is a mic preamp required to supply the phantom power, or will a condensor mic work plugged directly into the br-8? If it will work, will it sound any good?

Why not look at Roland's website and read the specs and see if it lists phantom power as one of its features? (I suspect it doesn't at its price point, but...)

Looked at the specs for the Boss br-8 and no luck- it doesn't have phantom power. :(

That means that you will need an external source of phantom power. I can't recommend a cheap one that is just phantom power to you, but there are plenty of threads around for the best inexpensive preamp (which do more than just offer phantom power). Look at Art's MP or M-Audio's dmp3 (I think) for starters.
