Whats the best RAP MIC??!
Hey guys! My question is a simple one and kind of opinion based, but if you had the resources to spend $6000 on a mic/mic pre combination, what two would you get and why? EXPLAIN YOUR DECISIONS =]!
Rules: You have to get one mic AND one mic pre with your $6000 budget
You have to justify your decision
You can choose a set of mics if you really feel the need to. IE- KSM44, 414, SM7B and a GR for the PRE.
You must do your best to come to the $6000 budget as possible

READY. GO!

Home recording and $6K???
???
???
???

Perhaps ONE mic pre and MIC is not the answer....

Just a thought...

SM58

RNP

Whatever ADC for $2K...

And $3k.. on a massive party... Or just add video to your kit and that should deplete $6K in a heartbeat.

hahah i thought id give some people the chance to wish, plus it would help me because i have the money to spend. Im only 17 but I work my freekin ass off 60 hours a week lol. So any other input from people? It would help

For what end? To record you and only you, one track at a time?

To record a drumset with 8 or more mics at one time?

To make a CD?

To make a 7.1 surround sound video?

To ???

KSM 44 and AT 4050 definitely.
Sm7b or EV RE-20 probably.

RNP + RNC or Great River stuff. And up the scale for that cash.

It depends on the goal though. Which you failed to list.

Sorry, I can't believe I forgot to write that haha. I want to be able to record different bands. I mostly right now am bringing in Alt Rock Bands with a lot of that "in your face" vox and guitar and acoustic artists with just a guitar and a voice. I also get a lot of wanna be rappers so that only requires a beat and a solid mic/pre. No metal, the heaviest would be rock. I have no problem spending the money, I will just work more and make more. I want to get the best possible sound I can get. My checklist shows I need a better pre and I guess better mics. If I got a new amazing pre though, I would have to also get a converter, right? I couldnt use the firepod as my converter without sacrificing tons of quality, could I?

Right now my single chain
HP DV8t-> Reaper->Fp10->KSM44, sm57, ADK hamburg, SM7B, SM58, MXL 603s->KRK RP8s G2

I also have a DMP3 which i don't really use.
