Mic pre Question.

If a hybrid mic pre like the presonus only uses the tube to make noise, why does changeing the tube have such an impact on the ammount of noise produced by the unit?

I recently had aquired a mullard tube and installed it into my unit and now I can allmost crank my tube drive to ten and get less noise than with the "select sovtek" that came inside the unit.

It was like night and day. I could only put the tube drive on 3 before noise was a factor, now noise is gone but a harnmonic exists instead. Could the low quality tubes be that much of a problem with these units?

Because, literally, a lot of them just plain suck.
