It needs more cowbell!
DMP3 or Symetrix SX202?
ART TPS or something else?
dbx Vocal Pro via S/PDIF?

I'm looking for a preamp in the $200 range, as an upgrade to the mic pres in my Seasound Solo EX. Someone over on the Seasound board recommended the Symetrix. I think it was Chessrock that was chest-beating about the DMP-3. The ART TPS is a player in that price range. (Please note that all of these are 2 channel pres before someone pops up and says VTB-1...). Anything else I should consider?

Re: the Vocal Pro-I haven't seen a lot of discussion about dbx products on the forum, but my assumption (based on the fact that MF carries them and they're in the same price range as Behringer) is that they are comparable to Behringer. It was suggested to me that I could lower the noise floor on my Seasound significantly by going to a pre with S/PDIF outputs. The dbx unit was suggested as a low-cost pre with the S/PDIF out. Any others that anyone knows about?

Thanks!!!!

Before the VTB-1 came out, my favorite pre (under $200) was the
Aphex 107 dual mic pre. It worked quite well on my vocals, and is
also well liked by Craig Anderton on his stuff BTW.
It's quieter than the Mackie VLZ Pro pre's and has more gain.
A close second was the M-Audio DMP3, just sounded more plain
vanilla to me (some people like that more!).

The Aphex 107, however, just has XLR "ins".
It was desiged for microphones primarily, not line level signals.
