Hello all! I am getting ready to buy another mic (maybe pre) and I wanted to get some opinions first. I record primarly acoustic/bluegrass music and I would like to get something that would sound good with a Vince Gill type singer. The blue KIWI has been recommend by a sales rep. A few pre's I have been considering are an API 3124, Chandler LTD-1, GML 8302,
UA 2-610, or something by Brent Averill.

My current setup is:

P4 2.6 1gig ram
Cubase SX (haven't upgraded to 2 yet)
Nuendo Audiolink 96 multiset
Millennia HV-3B
Blue baby bottle
Neumann km184
Rode NT1
MXL 2001 (which I bought to mod w/the mojave audio tube kit)

I love the Millennia but I haven't gotten a sound I like yet with this type of singer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Jeff

Of COURSE the sales rep recommends the Kiwi. $$$

Personally, I think Vince Gill is gonna sound good through just about anything. I'd recommend something with a smooth response, without substantial midrange bumps and not too overly bright. Perhaps a nice ribbon?

Thanks for the reply! Haven't really thought about a ribbon. Probably becuase I don't know that much about them. I've got a royer labs demo CD around here somewhere, I'll give it a listen.

Thanks!
