When recording vocals I often get a blowing type sound against the mic. Obviously this is a result of air blowing from the mouth onto mic but I haven't found any effective ways to stop it. Any suggestions would be great.
If you want to hear an example go to http://www.garageband.com/song?|pe1|S8LTM0LdsaShaFm_Zw and you can stream or download a song from there.

Yes, the pop screen is pretty ubiquitous in studios today. You can actually make your own from an old pair of panty hose, a coat hanger, and an embroidery hoop, but you can also buy basic ones for around $20, so it's no big deal. Then there are the newer metal mesh designs that are pretty cool (BLUE, Stedman) but much more pricey.

If you need a quick fix, try positioning the mic above the plane of the singer's airstream, angled down so it's still pointing at the mouth. That can eliminate a lot of your problems immediately.

hello!
a home-made pop filter will work so well! just get a coathanger from your closet (or someone else's :) and go down to a grocery store and get some pantyhose to stretch over it. i did that just recently while recording my band's demo (www.mp3.com/mapoftulsa) and it worked so well that i still use it! good stuff, and it cost like $4! good deal :)

If you have really bad problems even with a pop filter (as I do sometimes), just use two, spaced about 1" apart, or use a foam pop filter AND the circular pop filter.

I dont get the whole home made pop filter trend. You can buy them for $8 and they dont look embarrassing.
