Mic placement (distance)

SUGGESTED MICROPHONE PLACEMENT: 25 mm (1 in.) from the speaker, on-axis with the speaker cone.


The above is from a popular (though overpriced) online gear source. My question is, how do they reckon the distance? Are they calling it 25mm from the center, or 25mm from the outer edge???

I suggest you forget the ruler and place it where it sounds best.
