Hi ,I have been doing some mic mod work on a octava 319 thanks to help from members i have done most of the common tasks allready mentioned but i have a new problem just come up.
I was adjusting the diaghram position to try and get a more open sound ,anyway now the output has gone way up ,anyone know how i can bring the output down again by changeing the caps or?,
which cap do i need to swap.i allready have 1uf 100v film caps in the board and a 1uf cap which goes to the diaphram

also any recommendations on the cap value i could use in this situation.

any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

ok It turns out that my emu sound card was playing up ,i reinstalled software drivers and now its back to normal so its not the mic.thanks goodness for that.

can anyone recomend and good film caps 1uf 100v for these mics.
I need small ones with good audio quality.

Thanks everyone

hi bitches! I modded a turd I took this morning and funny, it still smelled like a turd!

Hi bitches, thanks for the negative rep points on this one! There is some hidden wisdom in my extremely hilarious comment earlier. I know our population now functions at an average reading level of an 8th grader so it must be extremely difficult for most average adults to surmise the literary device used in my statement so here is a test:

The turd in sweetnubs extremely hilarious example functions as what form of literay device?

a) simile
b) allegory
c) symbol
d) onomontapeia
e) toothpaste

Now that SAT scores have been lowered to account for our growing stupider poplulation I will spell it our for you: No matter how you mod this mic it will still sound like a turd.

Thanks bitches!

I have a 319 i am happy with ,what would be a better bet for the money

You modded a turd you "took" this morning. Where did you take it? I've taken turds out of my panties, and out of my asshole when they were stuck in there, but I've never said that "I've taken a turd." I've taken lots of shits, but never a turd.

I know my "literay" skills are sub par. Please excuse.

If you wanna get it done right send contact oktavamod.com
Ive had 2 mk219 done and they are great. Michael Joly who does it is a pleasure to deal with and does a great job :D

Well i guess for the guy who thinks this mic will sound like a turd doesnt know much about mics or mods trust me ill pin my mods against any neumann anyday
just cause they think they are the best doesnt mean they are. They sure price them high like they are but come on a U87 a great mic?? hardly and not for the price they want. Seems to me they have a great sales pitch and have convinced the world of it. Seems all the real pros if they have Neumanns they are usually u47 tube or u67 or m49s not the current crap they sell :D

Hey Lamach, within the scope of it's pricepoint, the 319 is a pretty decent mic that I will never get rid of, despite having more pricy mics to use.

Peace

I have 2 Oktava 319s that sounded pretty damn good stock. These mics are by no means "turds". I got great vocal tracks with them. Since then, I've done the mods that were in an article that Flatpicker sent me and mow they are fantastic mics.

Send it to Michael Joly. He knows what to do!!

I might be buying one or two of those aswell, the capsule is OK without
the disk I cather, heard some recordingns made with them.

The HF booster disks should go IMHO. Putting some dampening down in th grill area to reduce reflections also helps. I changed out all the capacitors for quality ones and changed the FET and now it sings!!! Remove the switches as well.

And take the inner layer of mesh out of the grill, nothing cooler than the bare capsule in plain view from outside the "cage."

Could you tell me what material you use for damping and where you place it? (Is it a common material? Just a few bits in strategic locations or a piece covering the entire base beneath the capsule?) And what FET did you replace the stock one with? (I've already removed one layer of screen and the HF disks.)

I'd take advantage of Michael Joly's mods if I were in the States, but being in Japan makes things (shipping, if nothing else) more difficult, so I have to do this stuff myself. And that's if I can even find the materials I need. Caps are no problem, damping material probably no problem (especially if it's chewing gum  ) but the FET might be tricky. Anyway, any information you might share is appreciated.

BTW, PhilGood, gotta love your signature. :)

I just used some self adhesive felt and rubbed a little silicone into it to make sure the fibers don't go all over the place. I just cut some half moons and placed them on the base in front and back to break up reflections.

The FET is a Toshiba 2SK170BL FET

I second this. His modification is an incredible improvement. The before/after samples on his web site were more than enough to convince me.

Was it YOUR turd? Maybe that's why it still smelled like a turd. Maybe you should have tried modding a mic.

Cool. It sounds like something even *I* can handle. I'll put out an APB on the FET and see if anyone here can scare one up for me.

Thanks again.
