I use a MiniDisc recorder with a stereo mic for recording natural and industrial sounds. When recording, there is a slight buzzing interference coming through the headphones which only goes away when i am physically touching the minidisc unit. Does this sound strange to anyone or is there some sort of explanation/solution for this. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

cheers ;)

Maybe you're acting as an antenna for electromagnetic radiation in the area. Does it happen out in the woods as well as in buildings or around power lines?
When you touch the unit, you're making an electrical connection and "grounding" it to yourself, thus eliminating any potential (voltage) difference which is being injected into the minidisc and amplified.
The cure is obvious - attach a wire by a screw to the recorder chassis, and the other end by a screw to yourself. :) Just kidding.
