I posted this in the tascam board, but I don't think many people read that.

Hi,
I'm new to home recording, and I'm looking into purchasing a Tascam Porta 02 MKII 4-track to get started. Anyway, I was looking at pictures of the recorder, and from what I can tell, the microphone inputs look like regular inputs for a guitar or bass. All of the microphones I've ever seen have the larger plugs with the three prongs. So my question is, before I buy the recorder, how do you plug a mic into one of these things? Is there an adapter I can get? Thanks.

You can get special cables with 1/4" on one end and XLR on the other. A better bet might be to use standard XLR cables, and buy an adapter with a transformer in it for the other end. Any shop that sells mic's and cables should be able to help you with this. The adapters are more expensive than the cables, but sound better.
